NMT

Neuromuscular therapy addresses the pains and dysfunctions of the
soft tissue in the body. Persistent irritation in the body can gradually
become amplified and self-perpetuated; this increases muscle tone,
local ischemia (tight spots), and accumulation of toxins in the body.
Neuromuscular therapy, or NMT, seeks to break this cycle of pain and
discomfort.
The focus with NMT is very specific when compared with some other forms of bodywork. Although it is often uncomfortable, the results can be very dramatic. NMT addresses trigger points, ischemic areas, soft tissue lesions and nerve entrapment.
Trigger Points
Trigger points are areas in the body that refer pain out
from their source. Many people misunderstand a trigger point to mean
any sore spot on the body. A true trigger point will refer pain.
For example, I may apply pressure to a spot between your shoulder
blades that makes you feel a tingling or irritation in your head or
neck. This is a true trigger point. NMT addresses and releases trigger
points in order to lower the amount of stress and discomfort in the
body.
Trigger points and their referral patterns have been expertly mapped out by Janet Travell and David Simmons in "Myofascial Pain and Dusfunction: The Trigger Point Manual", if you're interested in more reading on the subject.
You can obtain NMT specialization training at IPSB in San Diego.
